The roads and skies are getting busier all the time, but is this really any good for the planet? Carbon emissions from transport is one of the biggest contributing factors to climate change.
So what can we do to help?
Use your car less
Believe it or not, half of all car journeys made are under two miles. Do you really need to take the car? If you are not going far, why not walk or take your bike instead. Not only is it better for the planet, it’s better for you too!
Travel with friends
60% of all car journeys have only one person in the car. Why not try to car share when possible. Going to a friend’s party? Try to organise picking up friends so their parents can save on unnecassary car trips.
Try the bus or train for a change
Taking public transport is far more energy-efficient than taking the car. And it can be more fun too!
Take holidays closer to home
We all love to take holidays abroad but there are plenty of exiciting places to visit closer to home too. Why not try asking your parents if you can at least take some of your holidays in the UK. If you still want your beach holiday, there are lots of beautiful beaches around the country. Or if you want to go abroad, how about taking the Euro Tunnel to France?
Why not share your ideas on how you cut down on using transport? We can post them on the website for all the other carbonkids to see. Send us your ideas now! |
