The weather describes what is happening outside your window right now. Take a look, it could be raining, windy, sunny, hot or cold. How would you describe it today? The weather can change a lot in a short period of time, it may be clear beautiful skies one minute, and then pouring down with rain the next!
The climate describes the average of all this weather over a long period of time at any specific place. It includes regular weather patterns like summer and winter, and special weather events like floods and heatwaves.
The climate will vary on where you are. Some countries around the equator have a very tropical climate, high temperatures all year round but prone to heavy rainstorms. The harshest climates on Earth are found at the north and south poles which are dominated by freezing temperatures, frequent strong winds and snow.
In the British Isles, our climate has very changeable weather at all times of year. Lots of people believe the climate here in Manchester is very wet as it supposedly rains all year, but we don¹t all agree....! |
